Jacob spent nearly all his spare time playing with Grandpa. They built train tracks with train stations, read books and anything else Jacob could think of. Grandpa is now Jacob's new BFF!
One day we took a day trip across Ohio. We stopped in Marion at their railroad museum which used to be their train station. It was situated at the confluence of 4 or 5 tracks.
It was REALLY cool. I enjoyed all of the history in it.
Jacob enjoyed watching for trains! In fact, 3 came by at the same time. It sure was LOUD!
Rachel enjoyed the antique rocking chair.
Then we headed up to Lodi to visit their outlet malls. The mall is themed around trains and includes a train that you can ride as many times as you want for 3$. Sweet huh! Jacob sure loved it!
Lately Jacob's been asking about chemicals; what they are and what they do. Both Michael and Grandpa are chemists so we planned some simple household reactions to try. Of course, we mixed baking soda and vinegar, we changed grape juice to green and then purple again, we grew borax crystals and here we are checking rocks that we collected on our hike for calcium carbonate. That limestone sure fizzes in vinegar! I think Jacob enjoyed watching and learning.
We also went to the zoo where we rode the train ride and visited the petting zoo. Rachel LOVES animals and I think she was on a mission to comb every goat they had there!
No hiding spot was missed and no goat uncombed!

Love the pictures. We had a WONDERFUL time with Jacob, Rachael and Emma. They are amazing kids with unbelievable energy and inquisitiveness! Trains and blocks and princesses and books and dogs and zoo animals and ice cream and chemistry and Mentos rocket backfires and etc. - whew! Loved Jacob's carrots and Rachael's tomatoes too. Grandchildren are GREAT!
