Last night we had a few inches of snow. But then you add the classic Columbus touch of freezing rain. Columbus sure gets some strange mixtures of weather. We're often on the line between snow and rain and that leaves us with freezing rain. For all you Arizonans out there who have never experienced freezing rain, let me explain:
The ground is colder than the clouds so it's warm enough to rain (barely) and as soon as it hits the ground, or just before, it freezes. This leaves us with a nice, thick sheet of ice on the ground, car, walls, everything. It'd be pretty beautiful if I didn't have to drive on it!
This morning we were watching the rain fall and Jacob said "mommy, that 'tow is 'picy!" (that snow is spicy).
"It is? Why is it spicy?"
" 'cause there's a white road on it!"
My son is an observant mastermind. After a few seconds of reflection I realized that the sheet of ice on top of the snow looked like a road with rain on it, but white. It's amazing what kind of connections kids make! And it's even more amazing that they remember all of these connections. I'm constantly laughing at Jacob's grasp on the science of everyday life. We get some pretty funny comments out of that kid!

next time you should have him go out there and taste it and really let you know if it's spicy ;)
