Holiday Season

You know the funny thing about colds? There are more than 200 different kinds. And they are all miserable in some way or another. Our household has been graced by at least three in the last month. The first one targeted sinuses and produced a bad cough. The second, sore throat and stuffy nose. The third: watery eyes, drippy nose and a cough. It's like these little bugs have spent all of history perfecting the most frustrating way to make a person miserable. Oh wait. They have. So for the beginning of our holiday season, we've just been trying to survive. Oh by the way, Carol gave me this great trick to help babies sleep at night when sick. Just put a little Vicks on their feet and cover them up (with socks or footie jammies). When the humidfier wasn't working for Rachel, that would!

We were on the mend from cold #2 during Thanksgiving. We went to Cincinnati to visit James and Deanne. James was Michael's best friend through high school and all through BYU. He is in his first year of his pedo residency. They have two kids: Kylee and Calvin. Needless to say, Jacob and Rachel had SUCH a good time.

They played and ate and played some more. We pretty much did the same thing. Props for Deanne who made the best turkey and apple pie ever!

After Thanksgiving comes Christmas. We decorated and pulled out all of the fun Christmas toys and movies. Jacob was happy to see the Santa Claus movie again (you know, that 1940's Santa's Workshop) We also got a Christmas tree train for Jacob but it doesn't go around the Christmas tree. Needless to say, he loves it.

Rachel is also having a really great time with Christmas. She just learned to wave and every time we come downstairs she waves at the Christmas tree. She also loves to play with the tinsel. She waves it back and forth and of course, chews on it. Freud would sure have a field day with my kids; Jacob picks at his hands and Rachel puts everything in her mouth, especially shoes and paper. We call her our little goat.

The holidays are even better now that we have children. They sure have a knack for relishing simple things. That's yet another lesson I can learn from my kids!
