With beautiful weather (78*) we couldn't stay inside this weekend. Even Michael squeezed the great outdoors into his packed schedule. On Friday, we decided to go on a hike and have a picnic at Highbanks Metro Park. None of the trees or bushes have leaves yet, so it was still sparse, but warm and wonderful nonetheless.
Jacob had a great time dropping rocks over the bridges. They made a nice plopping sound as they splashed in. 
Rachel had a great time too. She kept pointing at things but we could never figure out what she was so excited about. She was pretty excited to hold some rocks and leaves though. She was frustrated though that we wouldn't let her get out and walk. 
When we reached a bench, we stopped for a "rest". That gave the kids a good oportunity to play in the dirt. There's nothing like sprinkling fist fulls of dirt back onto the ground. 
My crazy kids climbing on the folded seat in the van. Rachel's still got ketchup smeared on her face from dinner and Jacob is trying to eat her. We had an appointment at the temple right after our picnic and wouldn't you know it, we hit backed up traffic. Very backed up traffic. We got the kids into bed with record speed and get to the temple just in time. Ahh, the Adversary. He'll do just about anything to keep you from doing what's you're supposed to.
On Saturday we took Jacob to a "special surprise". It was actually a model train fair and as soon as we walked in, he was in heaven. There were trains everywhere! Most were on sale so he couldn't play with them.
But eventually we found some actual moving trains. Jacob never left them the rest of the time.
Rachel was really bored. Occasionally she would find something fun and then not be able to play with it. We finally found some toy horses tucked in a corner somewhere. She had to hold each one and give them hugs. Even though they were made of hard plastic. Rachel's a big fan of animals, dogs, cats and horses especially. She sure enjoyed finding something at the train show that was more suited to her tastes!

Sounds like an excellent weekend. I wish it was 78 here. Nope, rain today and tomorrow, and in the low 60s.
Sounds like so much fun! We took advantage of a great day a couple of weeks ago by going to the park too. I just love spring!
you're better than me, i have a hard time letting my kids play with dirt and such. watching them play with it makes my hands feel all gross
I'm glad you have a train addict in your family too. Luckily we live right across the street from the tracks. Everytime they hear it coming everything stops and they run to the window to watch.
