Trip to the Zoo

We often take trips to the zoo (we have a year round pass) but when we went last week we were practically the only people there. It was also cool outside so the animals were actually awake and active. We had fun watching them.

Jacob is always wanting to get out of the stroller now. The only hard part is convincing him to get back in! He was sure enjoying walking on the "bridge" and watching the lion. Rachel was just happy to come along.

The lion was just sitting there enjoying himself. The look on his face said "what are you lookin at?" But despite his brusque manner we still enjoyed watching him. He's even given us a couple of roars before. That'll pop your eyes open!

"Look mommy, flamingos!" That's a line from the zoo curious george episode. Jacob always wants to look at everything that "the monkey" saw at the zoo. This stop is the flamingos.

I think the best time we had was with the tiger. He was pacing (which was fun in itself because usually he is sleeping in his cave) but he was also playing. Growing up, we had a white, fat cat that wasn't the smartest of animals. One of our favorite tricks was putting a hand next to the sliding door and with the cat on the outside, he would come and snuzzle against that door right where your hand was, thinking he was getting some scratches. I guess that game applies to any cat because the tiger was doing the same thing to Jacob! The size proportion was a little off; how such a big tiger expected any notable scratches from Jacob's little hand is baffling. That tiger was also jumping at one of the zoo guides umbrellas. He was sure having a good time playing!
